Tournament:
Organiser:
Venue: Gerik Open 2007 concluded successfully on the 11th of August. The event, with the total prize money of more than RM3500 attracted more than 300 players from all over Malaysia and Singapore.
The day of the event started as early as 6.45am for Penang players when the 40-seated bus started its journey. A glance of the tournament hall from the entrance of the hall.
Round 1 started at almost 11am with the under 12 boys first start the clock.
The kids get themselves ready before round 1.
The organiser of the event had a welcome speech and they actually welcomed Fadli of Stonemaster.biz and your truly, Eu Hong of Chess.EuHong.NET in their opening speech.
Round 1 & 2 started smoothly for all the top seeds. Round 3 saw Anthony Liong blundered badly to lose while your truly escaped narrowly with a draw. The event started to get excited when Micheal Siong from Singapore beaten the Stonemaster in an interesting position while Khai Boon managed what he is supposed to do with his rating by beating his fellow Penang players, Chuah Heng Meng. Khai Boon continued his winning streak by beating Micheal Siong in round 5 while your truly played an inferior position and had to resort to defend against Stonemaster's English Opening and lost. This actually levels our personal encounter score... Round 6 was another win for Khai Boon when he was almost guaranteed champion with 6/6 going into the final round. The event then concluded after 7 rounds with most of the higher seeded players finished top and to set the record straight, all players from Penang that had participated in the Open Category, 8 of them finished top 10.
