At the end of the tournament, Chuin Khai, Wei Kit and Ern Tek tied with 6/7. Chuin Khai emerges champion for the second time in 3 consecutive Sunday chess tournament, with better tie break.
On 2 Nov, Penang Chess Association organised 25 minutes rapid tournament for U15 players as a last warm up tournament before the Penang Age Group 08 which will be held at Sri Pinang on 15/16 Nov (visit www.pca.bayanbaru.com for detail). 44 players turn up(though there are 50+ registered) with U15B, top seed Nicholas Chong came back in action and U12B MSSPP player Teoh Ern Tek is back in the scene. The tournament is win by Lim Chuin Khai(again) and his consistent result shows that he is ready for next year(next year he is secondary school already)

Looks like after the tournament, there is a birthday celebration.
Upset of the day, Round 5, Table 6, Kelly Lim vs Zhen Yuan. Zhen Yuan attack goes wrong... but it's ok, he will be back! Nevertheless, Kelly did shows improvement from the 3 tournaments
Last round saw Ern Tek beat Chuin Khai and Wei Kit beat Winson. This end up with a 3 way tie between Chuin Khai, Ern Tek and Wei Kit. Chuin Khai Emerges a champion with higher tie break
PS Lim is a chess enthusiast. He is also a successful coach in Penang, having produced three U12 Penang champions for three consecutive years in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Before becoming a coach in 2006, he was active in competitive chess for many years. His "retirement" from competitive chess has not stopped him from investing his time and efforts in the development of chess in Penang, especially in guiding young players to become successful chess players. |
