After last week PAG, PCA return to SLC with a PCA-SLC open tournament. The objectives are to encourage chess at the mainland and create opportunities for butterworth, Sungai Petani, Kulim and other town nearby to join the tournament.

The registration for the tournament is encouraging with almost 80 players. However, the turnout was less than 50% of what appear on registration list.... that was bad for the pairing when most of the players will expect a walkover at first round!

So, with quick action, pairing handler Tan Eu Hong remove the absent player from the pairing and as the result, the tournament started late at 10.30am. However, given the situation, I think the late start is justifable...

Finally, Tan Eu Hong present the souvenir to Lewis Lim, SLC's marketing manager for SLC's kindness and helpfulness throughout the tournament.

So, it is the end of the tournament and it seems that the objective is not fully met. Nevertheless, it is not a discouraging effort for PCA as a start; it is just a beginning and PCA will be putting more developing plan on Penang's mainland, especially, Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam. PCA and SLC has combined the effort to start the ball rolling at BM, let's hope the other sectors, organization or school especially, will continue to organize chess tournament and should there be any needs of technical assistant; PCA is more than willing to help. So, you BM people, lets keep it up!
