Penang Chess Association started off a new year with an under-9 chess tournament. The objective of this tournament is to encourage more under-7 juniors to pick up chess. As motivation to all U9 players, they all were given free chess books! The winner for this is one of the strongest U9 player in Penang : Tang Wei Kit with 7/7 perfect score

Khaw Ker Lee is the most improved players in this group, she used to finished with 0 or 1 point last year but now she is runner up in U9G category! superb! (It remind me : Every Grandmaster was once a beginner)

PS Lim is a chess enthusiast. He is also a successful coach in Penang, having produced two U12 Penang champions for two consecutive years in 2006 and 2007.
 
Before becoming a coach in 2006, he was active in competitive chess for many years. His "retirement" from competitive chess has not stopped him from investing his time and efforts in the development of chess in Penang, especially in guiding young players to become successful chess players.
