Penang Chess Association started off a new year with an under-9 chess tournament. The objective of this tournament is to encourage more under-7 juniors to pick up chess. As motivation to all U9 players, they all were given free chess books! The winner for this is one of the strongest U9 player in Penang : Tang Wei Kit with 7/7 perfect score
Tang Wei Kit started off year 2008 with his first title (U9 chess tournament)

Top seed Tan Jia Yun take the girl category champion with 5/7.
Khaw Choo Kean who upset top seed Tan Jia Yun at round 1, is number 3
Eng Ying Xuan is one of the talented U8 player. He finished runner with only lost to Tang Wei Kit.
Anban is already 10 years old. He gets to play and have fun. But no prizes...
Chuah Hao Min takes U7B title with 4/7
Teh De Zen takes U7G title also with 4/7
Chess set, mat, score book and some chocolate for sales - a mini sales corner by PS Global Marketing and fews hungry kids...

The youngest participants in the event, Khaw Ker Shean. Amazingly, she wins 3 games!! By the way, can you guess how old is she?

Khaw Ker Lee is the most improved players in this group, she used to finished with 0 or 1 point last year but now she is runner up in U9G category! superb! (It remind me : Every Grandmaster was once a beginner)
Lee Tai Lin, the only one from mainland.
Last year U9B champion(in white; see also report on U9 selection), Ooi Zhi Yang, nickname OZY, turn up at the end of tournament. He did not participate due to other commitment.
