Fifth seed Penang Free School A team, powered by Victor Hong, Thong Yong Chen and Evan Timothy, clinched Penang Chess League 2007; 1 point ahead of their nearest rivals Play2win.
Penang Chess League 2007 (22, 23 Dec) The Penang Chess League took place in Penang Free School main hall, Penang for 2 consecutive days. It was a seven round Swiss team tournament, with time controls 60 min each. 50 teams turn up to this strongest team event in Penang. PFS A team, with 1 point lead into last round, hold a draw against third seed "Play2win". With this, PFS A with 16/21, were crowned the champion of Penang Chess League 2007. Play2win, presented by vietnamese girl Do Thi Thoung, Tan Eu Hong and Steven Hoh took the runner up with 15/21 while top seed MCE(Tutors) finished third with 14.5/21. Arbiter Mr. Tan Hock Lye and Mr. Eoh Hook Kin. Mr. Eoh Hock Kin put in lots of hard work on chess development during 1980s, and he still does with the establishment of EZ chess with his son, Thean Keat.
