Tan Khai Boon's National Rating shows an increase of 40+ points and thus, take over as top seed. He then show his class by taking the title of the last leg of grand prix with 6/7.
Grand Prix Open, final Leg The final leg of Grand Prix is affected by ASEAN Team chess championship at Kuala Lumpur where Penang has sent around 40 players there. With this, the final leg only has around 60 registrations. However, the last leg saw a few "long laid off players" came back to heat up the Grand Prix namely, Victor Hong Wee Liam, Ung Tay Aik and Terry Ong. They are a bit rusty now but still they did show their class :
Stopped for at least 5 months, Victor Hong(Fide Rating 2196) beat the winner of GP3, Tan Khai Boon in round 4
Ung Tay Aik took out National Closed runner up Tan Eu Hong at round 4.

This change is made to compensate those who perform quite well and miss the last leg due to their participations in ASEAN Team Chess Championship at KL. Hot shot Do Thi Thoung finished second in GP3 without dropping a game. She take revenge on Loo Swee Leong by beating him as black; and she also took down old timer Ung Tay Aik.

Final round - Table 1 Do Thi Thoung vs Tan Eu Hong (0.5-0.5) and Table 2 Tan Khai Boon vs Ung Tay Aik(1-0). Khai Boon overtakes Miss Do at last round.
