Previously, GP1 Report

Did I mentioned that he will be back with a revenge? (see Grand Prix Open 1) He did it with 7/7 perfect score. However, he has to thank a

Vietnamese girl, Do Thi Thoung for downing 3 strong players --> veteran Chuah Heng Meng(round 3), PCC Tan Khai Boon(round 4) and Anthony

Liong(round 6) when he avoided them all!

Grand Prix Open, Second Leg

Again the Grand Prix Open, second leg registration is like selling hot cakes - 70 places is filled up in 2 days!! This tournament is spice up by the appearance of a Vietnamese girl, Do Thi Thoung who 2 weeks ago won the blitz tournament in the same venue. At that time, I was not there to see how she did it... so this is the chance!

And yes, she played well but also need to thanks to some luck --> Chuah Heng Meng, in wining position blunder a rook. Similarly, Khai Boon attack on the King is unstoppable but miraclely it was stopped by, not Miss Do, but by Khai Boon himself! He miss-played the attack then later lost on time. Anthony, perhaps is shaken by Do Thi Thoung's perfomance, played carefully, but then end up in time trouble and lost on time!

"Good player is always lucky!" (once remarked by Ex World Champion Capablanca)

Some interesting pictures:

pic3.jpg

13 years old(going on 14) Evan started chess at age 11 but has consistently finish on top and beating some senior player sometimes - Beat Eu Hong in both GP1 and GP2

pic4.jpg

15 years old Ong Choon Yong(going on 16) is the only girl that put up fights against top players.

pic5.jpg

12 years old Wong Hao(going on 13) is also consistently finish top 15 but has yet to give real challenge to the seniors. Need to work harder.

pic6.jpg

Thong Yung Chen is improving well, he beat Antohny at GP1 and Khai Boon at GP2

pic7.jpg

10 year old Teoh Ern Tek is the most promising player at sight. He has the capability to score upset against stronger player as his play is full of tricks, traps and tactics. His GP points stand at #15 is not a fluke!

pic8.jpg

Lee Chan Tung is the few players(from Kulim) that put fights to Penang players. His win against Khai Boon at GP2 proves that

pic9.jpg

Sanjeevwa is a good player but need to play more confidently.

Besides that, I include here are 2 players who has high chances of making to the final but only played in 1 Grand Prix : Do Thi Thuong GP points 953 and Choo Ting Wei GP point 859.

pic10.jpg

Choo Ting Wei is also a famous chinese chess player. So, is international chess and chinese chess related? Definitely!

pic14.jpg

Hoh Tjin Hui, is the youngest of Hoh family. Obviously, she is well trained by her father Steven Hoh as her play was very mature!

pic15.jpg

10 years old Leow Yong Jie has improved a lot and manage to take down P'ng Ren Chi(MSSPP player)
