Players qualified for the Grand Prix final produces their best skills and techniques to fight for their category's champion. Every game are hard fought and only those well prepared came out top. And they are :
The boys are separated to 3 category, U8, U10 and U12 while the girls has only 1 category. The format of play is 5 round swiss for U12B category and 7 round swiss for others with time control 30 minutes each. The top 3 winners on each category are : U8B Tang Wei Kit Khaw Choo Kean Chuah Hao Feng U10B Lim Winsen Teoh Ern Tek Yew Kang Yu U12B Nicholas Chong Ing Hooi Wong Hao Chong Shao Hong U12G Ng Jing Jia Tang Khar Khei Kelly Lim Pei Ying Go to here for the complete result. The only one not belong to the island... Lee Tai Lin from mainland make it to GP final.

Chuah Hao Feng, the younger brother of Chuah Yu Ning display the same quality -- patient and very careful play. (Finished 3rd)
Ng Jing Jia performance has been consistent, hopefully she would challenge the boys next!

Everyone at closing ceremony... see the clock on the wall, it's 4.30pm meaning the tournament finished 30 minutes earlie(including certificates printing!). That was efficient!!

And finally the U12B participants get their certificates. About AuthorPS Lim is a chess enthusiast. He is also a successful coach in Penang, having produced two U12 Penang champions for two consecutive years in 2006 and 2007. Before becoming a coach in 2006, he was active in competitive chess for many years. His "retirement" from competitive chess has not stopped him from investing his time and efforts in the development of chess in Penang, especially in guiding young players to become successful chess players. |
