On 28 Oct, PCA organised a U9 selection to select Penang's best U9 player to play in ASEAN YOUTH TEAM at Shah Alam. 16 most promising/best U9 players are called into participant in this selection and they are :
Eng Ying Xuan, U07B. Though currently has no rating, he is a one of the top U7 players
Ng Jing Yan, U07B. Ng Jing Jia's little brother, let's hope he could perform like his sister.
Teoh Ern Sheng, U07B. National rating 1102. A very talented boy; active and a regular tournament player. Has great fighting spirit; a boy to watch in the future.
Bryan Ooi Min Feng, U08B. A very discipline and hardworking player.
William Fong Wei Siang, U08B. National rating 1218. Has been in chess scene since age 6, an experience player among them.
Khaw Choo Kean, U08B. This boy is not very consistent, but at good day he can beat all of them(under his category)
Ooi Zhi Yang, U08B. National rating 1177. Most improved boy of all. And do you know his aims? To beat Yeoh Li Tian!
Tang Wei Kit, U08B. National rating 1153. Another favourite to win this title. He is very consistent and solid player and was runner up in National Age Group 2007 (at KL).
Kelly Lim Pei Ying, U08G. National rating 1215. She looks unbearably cute doesn't she? Yes, of course – until you have play chess against her!
Tan Jia Yun, U08G. National rating 1206. Another cute girl.... but will grind you down in chess!
Ang Zhen Yuan, U09B. National rating 1125. He has been showing good improvement during training session in PCA. If he could bring out his performance during training, he could be the one to take the title.
Ivan Lim Wei Jiet, U09B. National rating 1153. One of the best U9 player and a contender for the crown.
Ooi Yen Hoe, U09B. His look may be innocent, but will crush you in chess.
William Lee Kah Howe, U09B. National rating 1260. His seeding tell everything -- Top seed in U9 selection and favourite to take this title.
Chuah Yi Ning, U09G. She is patient and very careful during the game of chess. A vital character to win at chess
With this, top 3 players are automatic qualified to played in ASEAN Youth Team at Shah Alam from 1 Dec - 6 Dec. The other 2 is by nominations MSSPP where they have pick 4th and 5th placing. Thus, the MSSPP U9 team are : Ooi Zhi Yang, Ivan Lim Wei Jiet, Chuah Yi Ning, Ang Zhen Yuan and Tang Wei Kit. We wish them all the best!
Tan Jia Yun at PS Global Marketing corner. She create upset in round one by beating William Lee. Her play is high standard but need to improve on finishing.
Kelly Lim's patient, carefulness and fighting spirit has bring her lots of success inculding beating top seed, William Lee and Tan Jia Yun. Having these value is definitely a good start, if she improves "technically"; she will be the chess princess!
Tang Wei Kit(left) and Teoh Ern Sheng(right) is action(round 2). Back gorund is Grand Prix 3 under way. Teoh Ern Sheng played well thru out the tournament except the critical round 6 where he blunder a queen at move 7. Queen is dead and hope is dashed - a painful lesson but looking at the good side, this could be a good lesson for life!
Mr. Khor Bean Hwa came in to be Arbiter in the second half of the tournament.
Tang Wei Kit's family doing homework while Wei Kit(not in photo) cracking his head(round 5). Not a minute is waste for this family.
Parents waiting for good news patiently. With their support, children's chess improvement is only possible.
The start of final round. It is a good trend(and also surprises) that 2 girls are on top 1 and 2 table --> Kelly Lim vs Ooi Zhi Yang(0-1) and Ang Zhen Yuan vs Chuah Yi Ning(0-1)
Chuah Yi Ning's parents talking/discussing with Pn. Hong(PCA exco) and Ooi Kiam Boon(Ex PCA exco) while waiting for final round result
From left, Mr. Khor Bean Hwa, Mr. Khaw Eng Yeam and Pn. Hong Siang Ean nomiating 2 places for MSSPP team(top 3 is automatically selected). And they pick 4th placing Ang Zhen Yuan and 5th placing Tang Wei Kit
How does it feel when you have 4/4 in first half and only 0.5/3 for the second half? Ang Zhen Yuan face illustrate it perfectly
Chuah Yi Ning is the best U9 girl in Penang. Her patient and very careful play will certainly came handy during Asean Youth Team championship which are 1 hour time control(each)
