Kindly be informed that Kilang Gula Felda Perlis will be organising Gula Perlis Open Chess Challenge 2009 on 16th May 2009 at Dewan Sek Men Teknik Kangar, Perlis. This is a national rated event and it's open to all chess players nationwide. Time control for each player is 30 minutes. The tournament is offering total cash prizes of RM4,240 for up to 57 winners including 10 lucky draws. Closing date for registration is 11th May 2009.

Penang Heritage City International Chess Open

Tournament Regulations

· This is an individual tournament, open to all players.

· There are two groups of play: Open category for all players, and Challenger category for players rated below 2000 (FIDE ratings) or national rating 1750 and below.

· FIDE (International Chess Federation) rules and regulations shall apply. Results will be sent for FIDE rating calculations.

· Both groups will be played using the Swiss System, with 9 rounds for Open and Challenger. For the pairings, a Swiss Manager program will be used.

· The matches shall be conducted according to the schedule attached.

· Each player is accorded with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

· Five minutes before the games start, the Chief Arbiter shall make the announcement accordingly. If any player is not present within an hour after the game is started, he shall lose by default.

· FIDE regulations apply for mobile phones, which must be switched off during playing times. Penalty is automatic loss of game.

· Officials and players should be smartly attired at all times while in the playing hall.

Good news to Penang chess player: Chess is included in SUKPEN IV(Sukan Pulau Pinang IV 2009)!

SUKPEN is a Multi-Sports Event which is for competition among districts(Majlis Sukan Daerah). It is an annual event organised by the EXCO members of "Belia Sukan, Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga & Komuniti Negeri Pulau Pinang".

Chess has been included in this year SUKPEN together with 35 sports event. We are very happy indeed to have chess included for the first time. PCA has been given the task to co-organise it with MSN.

The tournament format are :

DEADLINE for selection: 30 Apr

Team(Men) 8 + 2 = 10
Team (Ladies) 4 + 2 = 6
Individual(Men)    4 (Only for chess players with National Rating)
Individual(Ladies)    2 (Only for chess players with National Rating)
which means there will be a total of 22 players from a district.

Each district are to send 2 Men teams with 4 players and a reserve in each team and 2 Ladies teams with 2 players and 1 reserve in each team. The total points of Men team are the total of 2 Men teams added up (from the same district) and the one with the highest point will be Men team champion. The same for the Ladies team.

The time control for Team event is 30 mins each and 45 mins for Individual event.

The tournament will be held at Majlis Sukan Negeri Pulau Pinang, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Batu Uban, Penang on 30 and 31 May 2009. For detail and registration, please visit www.pca.bayanbaru.com or chess.euhong.net

Please take note that the tournament are for Under 22 of age (those who born 1987 and later).

PCA will make the decision on the players selection for all the 5 districts based on NATIONAL RATING and the decision will be final.
